English longcase case in colonial carved oak case by Robers of Otley Yorkshire. Late 18th Century. The oak case depicts a native caribe warrior and caribe motifs. The clock would have been made to order by a plantation owner in England and shipped back home to the West Indies. The case was carved by a local craftsman upon arrival in the West Indies. It reflects the rich indigenous caribe history largely destroyed by the european colonists in the 16th Century through slavery, exploitation and disease.
